Padres Win Streak Snapped

Friars fall to the Rockies to end season-long 4-game stretch

The Padres won a season-high four straight games behind four rookie starting pitchers. Robbie Erlin is not a rookie starting pitcher. Ergo, the Padres did not win five straight games.

Erlin had one bad inning but it was enough to lose to the Rockies 4-2 on Saturday night at Petco Park.

After tossing three shutout innings Erlin gave up a leadoff homer to D.J. LeMahieu in the 4th. After that Nolan Arenado singled, Trevor Story doubled, and Matt Holliday singled (although he did not touch the plate) to put three runs on the board. As it turned out that was enough to win.

The entirety of the Padres run scoring came in the form of two solo home runs by outfielder Hunter Renfroe, who went deep in the 2nd and 4th innings off Colorado starter Jon Gray. Renfroe has 19 home runs, putting him one behind Christian Villanueva for the team lead.

The Padres can win the 4-game series on Sunday when rookie right-hander Jacob Nix takes the ball against Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland.
