Padres Win Fifth Straight

Eric Stults took the mound Monday night at Petco Park with a 7-17 record. Numbers can be misleading because the veteran lefty has not pitched terrible this year, he's just been a little unlucky. Sure, there have been some game when Stults has not been sharp but sometimes when he's thrown well Stults has gotten very little run support.

On Monday he took matters into his own hands. Stults threw six-plus innings without giving up a run. He gave up a seven hits, got out of a few jams and was rewarded with his eight victory of the year after the Padres hung on for a 1-0 win over the Rockies.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the first when Rene Rivera hit a two-out double to score Jedd Gyorko. After Stults left in the seventh, four pitchers combined to keep the Rockies off the scoreboard for the Padres fifth straight win.
