Padres Tie Series against Cardinals

Friars Relievers Battle Together for the Win

The San Diego Padres beat the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night and are now just one win away from sealing their fifth series win in a row. The Padres are taking a different approach with their pitching. On social media “Bullpen Day” was trending as five of San Diego’s relievers helped them seal the 4-2 win over St. Louis.

Matt Strahm got the nod for the Friars and worked three innings of scoreless ball. The lefty retired all nine batters he faced and struck out four. Adam Cimber was up next on the mound and only allowed one infield hit but finished with three strikeouts in three innings pitched. In the seventh inning Craig Stammen allowed the only two runs. Kirby Yates and Brad Hand closed things out and sealed the victory.

Eric Hosmer got the offense going in the fourth inning when he sent his ninth home run of the season over the center field wall. The solo shot gave the Padres an early 1-0 lead. A.J. Ellis brought in two more in the same inning with an RBI single to right field that helped the Friars increase their lead 3-0.

The series finale will be on Wednesday June 13 at 5:15 p.m. PST at Busch Stadium.
