Padres Spring Training: Get To Know Joaquin Benoit

New closer is not unfamiliar with the role

When it comes to closers, the Padres lineage is unmatched. From Rollie Fingers to Goose Gossage to Mark Davis to Trevor Hoffman to Heath Bell to Huston Street, San Diego has not gone long stretches between sending a 9th inning specialist to the All-Star Game (of the Hall of Fame).

In 2015, Joaquin Benoit gets the gig. He's been successful in the past, closing games with the Tigers and a bit for the Padres after Street was traded last year.

Benoit has a power arm that fits the closer profile. But, what about his personality? Closers can sometimes be "unique" individuals, even by MLB clubhouse standards. NBC 7's Derek Togerson gets to know the man who should have plenty of chances to lock down games at Petco Park this season.
