Padres Roll Rockies Again

The Padres got a little bit of everything in their 4-1 victory over the Rockies Tuesday night at Petco Park. Starting pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne (3-3) threw seven shutout innings and struck out a career high eight in notching his third win of the season.

Up 2-0 in the eighth the Padres got a pair of defensive gems from their corner infielders on consecutive at-bats. Third baseman Chris Nelson went into the stands to catch a foul pop-up off the bat of Charlie Blackmon. First baseman Tommy Medica did the same to retire Josh Rutledge.

Nelson drove in two with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The Rockies lone run came on a Corey Dickerson home run in the top of the ninth off of reliever Dale Thayer.

The Padres have now won four in a row. They're 8-1 in the month of August and are a National League best 15-8 since the All-Star break.

The Padres go for the series sweep Wednesday afternoon.
