Padres Notch First July Win

Eric Stults pitched his second complete game of the season as the Padres held on to defeat the Rockies. Manager Bud Black came out to the mound with two outs in the ninth but decided to let Stults (7-7) finish the game. He struck out Josh Rutledge to finish off a four hitter and record the 2-1 win.

Alexi Amarista drove in both Padres runs. His triple in the third scored Stults and a bases loaded single in the seventh drove in what would be the winning run.

With the win the Friars edged out of the NL West cellar, mere percentage points ahead of the Giants. The series finale with Colorado is Wednesday night at Petco Park.
