Padres Hold Off Braves

It was a pitchers duel at Petco Park. Andrew Cashner got the better of veteran Tim Hudson to win his fifth game of the season. Cashner (5-3) struck out five over eight innings allowing just two earned runs. Hudson (4-6) took the loss. He's 0-5 over his last seven starts.

Hudson gave up a first inning home run to Chase Headley. The solo shot, his 6th of the season, tied the game at one. The Padres got another run in the second and again in the third to go up 3-1.

Cashner left after the eighth, holding on to a 3-2 lead. Joe Thatcher came in and struck out the two batters he faced. Luke Gregerson replaced Thatcher and struck out Dan Uggla swinging to end the game.

The Padres go for the series sweep Wednesday afternoon.

Notes: Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin is expected to miss at least six weeks with a knee injury he suffered diving for a ball on the warning track in Colorado.
