Wil Myers is officially back in the Major Leagues. The tricky part will be how long he stays.
The Padres outfielder returned from his latest stint on the disabled list on Thursday ahead of start of a 4-game series against the Giants in San Francisco. Myers has been out with a strained oblique muscle since the end of April.
Myers was moved from 1st base, where he was an All-Star in 2016, back to the outfield after the Padres signed Eric Hosmer to be their corner infield cornerstone. He packed on 20 pounds of muscle in the off-season, an attempt to better handle the grind of a 162-game season.
He hasn't had a chance to see if it worked or not yet. Myers has been limited to 40 at-bats in 2018 (he has a .300 avg, one home run and 3 RBI).
To make room on the 25-man roster the Padres optioned OF Franmil Reyes to Triple-A El Paso.
