Padres Fall Short in Game 161

Diamondbacks edge Friars in season's penultimate match

The Padres had several positive things happen on Saturday night against the Diamondbacks.

Eric Hosmer had three hits, including a home run ... Manuel Margot tripled and drove in two runs ... rookie shortstop Javier Guerra singled and recorded his first Major League run batted in ... Kazuhisa Makita threw 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Some day that many good things are going to translate into a win.

The Padres lost 5-4 to Arizona. Rookie starter Jacob Nix gave up four earned runs in 4.0 innings without a strikeout to take the loss in his final start of the season.

Lefty Joey Lucchesi, the first rookie to make a start for the Padres this year, gets the nod in the last game of the year against Arizona lefty Robbie Ray.
