Padres Drop Series Opener Against Dodgers

Wil Myers became the third Padre in club history to hit five home runs in a three-game span.

The San Diego Padres finally returned to Petco Park and started a seven-game homestand with the first of four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. The team's divisional rivals showed them no mercy and sealed the series opener 8-2.

Former Padre Yasmani Grandal jump-started the Dodgers offense in the fourth inning with an RBI double to deep right field. The Dodgers scored five runs in that inning alone.

The Friars entered the ninth inning with an 8-0 deficit. Wil Myers got the Padres on the board with a solo shot to left field.

The 395 footer was Myers’ fifth home run in the last three games.

Myers became the third Padre in club history to hit five home runs in a three-game span.

It was also his seventh homer of the year. His efforts, however, were simply not enough.

The second game of the set is on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:10 p.m. PST at Petco Park.
