Padres Drop Coors Field Slugfest

Friars come close to another massive mile-high comeback

As demonstrated on Father's Day, when the Padres overcame a 13-8 deficit in the 7th inning to beat the Rockies 14-13, the Friars have overcome big deficits to win at Coors Field before. Well, everyone has probably overcome big deficits to win at Coors Field, the stadium where no lead is big enough.

San Diego nearly did it again on Friday night, falling behind Colorado 8-2 but mounting a proverbial furious comeback before finally going down 10-8.

Padres starter Joey Lucchesi gave up eight runs in just 3.2 innings. He was pulled after surrendering back-to-back homers to Trevor Story and Garrett Hampson that gave the Rockies that 8-2 advantage.

The the Friars got back into it with a big 6th inning. With one out Wil Myers doubled and Josh Naylor singled. Luis Urias followed with a single to score Myers and make it 8-3. Austin Hedges, who hit a 2-run homer run in the 2nd inning, followed with a walk to load the bases for Ty France.

The former Aztec lined a single to left-center to bring in two more runs and make it an 8-5 game. Nick Martini doubled home another run, Manny Machado walked to load the bases again and Eric Hosmer was hit by a pitch to plate France and make it a 1-run game ... but Myers struck out to end it.

In the bottom of the inning Story took Craig Stammen deep for his 2nd homer of the night, which turned out to be the game-winning run.

The Padres try to even the series on Sunday when Eric Lauer takes the mound against Peter Lambert.
