Padres Close Out Short Series Against A's

Friars Struggle; Athletics Unleash Homeruns

If you blinked you may have missed this Padres homestand. The Friars wrapped up a quick two-game set against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park. The Padres offense made a late-game rally but could not catch up to the A’s offense. Oakland captured the set with their second victory in San Diego 12-4. The visitors smashed five home runs in the series finale.

The bright spot for the Padres came in the ninth inning when Christian Villanueva sent his 16th homer of the season to left field. The solo shot tied Villanueva for second-most home runs in the National League. Bryce Harper has the most with 19.

The Padres start a seven-game road trip with a four-game set against the San Francisco Giants. The first game of that series is on Thursday, June 21 at 7:15 p.m. PST.
