Padres Bullpen up in Arms

The game of musical chairs in the Friars pitching staff continues....

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians traded right-hander Edward Mujica to the Padres for future considerations or cash. Mujica, a 24-year-old native of Venezuela, was out of options with Cleveland after pitching in relief in parts of the past three seasons for the Indians. In 53 games, he went 3-3 with a 6.04 ERA.

In nine outings this spring, Mujica went 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA.

In other developments, right-hander Jae Kuk Ryu, who the Padres claimed on waivers by Cleveland on Thursday, was returned to San Diego. That deal was voided by Major League baseball. The Indians would not comment on any injury concerns with the 25-year-old South Korean.

These moves and others like them do not instill confidence. Could the Padres be set to repeat last year's 99-loss season?
