Padres Beat Braun-less Brewers

Padres starter Andrew Cashner overcame a shaky start to win his sixth game of the season. He gave up consecutive doubles in the first inning as the Padres quickly fell behind 2-0.

Jesus Guzman's sixth homer of the year in the second inning cut the Brewers lead to 2-1. In the sixth the Padres used a combination of small and big ball to take the lead. Cahsner led off the inning with a bunt single. Everth Cabrera did the same, sending Cashner to second. A Chris Denorfia ground out sent Cashner to third and Cabrera to second. Chase Headley then walked, loading the bases. Carlos Quentin followed with a two-run double, tying the game at three. Two batter later Jesus Guzman doubled to left, scoring Headley and Quentin, giving the Padres a 5-3 advantage they would never lose. Guzman went 2-for-4, knocking in three runs.

The Brewers managed just four hits, no doubt still numb from the news of Brian Braun's suspension for the rest of the season. Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 17th save of the season.

Game two of the four game series is Tuesday night in Milwaukee.
