No Place Like Home For The Aztecs

Women's basketball at San Diego State is hardly a big draw for fans.  But when the Aztecs saw thousands in the stands for their NCAA Tournament opener against DePaul at Cox Arena it pumped them up.

"It was certainly the biggest crowd this team has ever played before in this building," said Aztecs Head Coach Beth Burns.

Her team put on a show, especially in the second half, as they beat the Blue Demons 76-70. The Aztecs will face Stanford on Monday night for the right to move on to the Sweet 16.

Junior guard Jene Morris was sensational for the Aztecs at both ends of the floor.  She had three steals, and played amazing defense.   She turned some of that 'D' into an incredible offensive performance.  Morris led the way with 35 points.

"My team mates helped me on defense," Morris said.  "Was it my most complete game, I don't know."

Her coach didn't think it was.

"Every player will tell you they aren't surprised, because Jene does that every day in practice," added Burns.

The crowd  of 3,651 loved every minute of it.   The Aztecs are hoping that home court advantage will help again on Monday.
