Niners' Playoff Hopes End in Philly

It's official.  The 49ers will not end the 2009-2010 season with their first winning record since 2002.  And the playoffs are out, as well.

Sunday in Philly it wasn't the chilly weather that got to San Francisco, it was the red-hot Eagles who secured their fifth-straight win by downing the Niners, 27-13.

In their big win over division-leading Arizona last week, turnovers proved crucial for Mike Singletary's crew.  But Sunday the Niners found themselves on the other side of the turnover ratio.

Alex Smith threw three interceptions, all in the first half, and Delanie Walker lost a fumble, as the Niners gave up the ball four times, compared to just two turnovers for the Eagles.

But while the game knocked the 49ers out of the playoffs, it welcomed Philadelphia in.  At 10-4 the Eagles earned their eighth postseason berth this decade.

Former Cal star DeSean Jackson led the way for the home team, burning the Niners for 140 receiving yards and a touchdown.  Donovan McNabb overcame two interceptions to finish the game 21 for 36 for 306 yards and the touchdown to Jackson.

The bright spot for the Niners came courtesy of Frank Gore whose 107 yards on the ground made him the first running back to pass the century mark against the Eagles in 24 games.  But it wasn't enough to keep the San Francisco offense moving consistently.

With the loss the Niners can only finish the season with an 8-8 record at best.  Their final two opponents are the Lions and Rams.
