Nady Pushing to Make Squad

The Padres got spanked by Cleveland 12-7 on Wednesday in Goodyear, Arizona but it was a good day for veteran Xavier Nady.

In the first inning he made a nice play at first base to retire Nick Swisher. In the 4th Nady doubled, and then scored on a double by Alex Dickerson. Nady wasn't done. He also had a solo homer to right field in the top of the sixth inning that tied the score at four.

This spring Nady is hitting .364, with 8 hits and 3 RBI in 22 at bats. There's an opening on the team for a veteran player to come off the bench now that Mark Kotsay has retired. Wednesday's effort will no doubt improve his chances of making the big league roster.

Nady has played for 8 major league teams since breaking in with the Padres 14 years ago.
