Maybin Suffers Serious Injury

Yesterday, Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin injured his left arm diving for a fly ball against the Dodgers. Monday morning's M-R-I revealed the injury may cost the center fielder a significant amount of the 2014 season.

Maybin, who was finally healthy after wrist surgery last year, will miss 2-to-3 months, a huge loss for the Padres, and it came in a meaningless Sunday game against the Dodgers.

Manager Bud Black will now rely on his other outfielders to shoulder the load, "Cameron (Maybin) was going to be part of that mix along with Dino (Chris Denorfia) and Will (Venable) and Q (Carlos Quentin) and Seth (Smith), who are veteran players, we'll see how the rest of that roster plays into that."

Venable is the likely replacement for Maybin in center field with Denorfia and Smith sharing duties in right and Quentin manning left field.

It is an unfortunate blow for the 26 year-old, who is coming off an injury plagued 2013. The speedy outfielder played in just 14 games last season. If there is a silver lining, it was the fact that the shoulder capsule and rotator cuff suffered no apparent damage.
