Makenzie Fischer played soccer until she was 10 years old and admired Mia Hamm, but switched to water polo – one of the advantages, she says, is that there isn’t any running in water polo. She and her sister, Aria Fischer, would watch the Olympics on television and imitate whichever sports were on. She says she knew she wanted to be an Olympian, but didn’t know what sport.
