Tuesday was a memorable day for La Mesa native Steven Brault.
The 24-year-old pitcher made his Major League debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates and helped his team earn a 5-2 victory in Saint Louis.
Against the Cardinals, Brault showed flashes of brilliance and allowed only two runs (one earned) in four innings of work.
Part of the reason he was pulled is because his pitch count was already up to 82 after four frames. But he did strike out five batters and left with the game tied 2-2.
With his family watching in the stands at Busch Stadium, Brault also delivered a single at the plate for his first career hit.
Be sure to keep an eye on him at the plate in the future because he is a pretty good hitter compared to most professional pitchers.
Brault did make one rookie mistake. He forgot his glove back in Indianapolis when he got called up from Triple-A.

He wound up having to borrow a glove from new teammate Jeff Locke in his big league debut.
Brault reminds some people of Tom Glavine because of his delivery and ability to pound the strike zone with a respectable fastball and complimentary pitches that keep hitters off balance.
The lefty was projected to make his second major league start with the Pirates on Sunday at home against the Chicago Cubs. However, Brault was optioned back to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday when the Pirates recalled left-handed pitcher Kyle Lobstein.
