The hottest team in the American Hockey League calls San Diego home.
The Gulls beat the first place San Jose Barracuda 4-3 on Friday night in front of 10,253 fans at Pechanga Arena. San Diego has won five straight games and eight of their last nine.
San Diego's rookie sensation made his presence felt. Troy Terry, who entered the game tied for the AHL rookie lead in points, assists, and game-winning goals, whipped one past Barracuda goalie Josef Korenar with 11 seconds left in the 1st period to tie the game 1-1.
That was not the last time we heard from Terry, who was named to the AHL All-Star Game this week.
After Adam Cracknell put the Gulls up 2-1 with the lone goal of the 2nd period the 21-year-old Terry found the back of the net again for his 14th goal of the year, putting him right behind veteran Sam Carrick's career-high 17 goals for second on the team. With the Gulls up 3-1 the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
San Jose got within one on a Dylan Gambrell goal but Joseph Blandisi netted what turned out to be the game-winner with three and a half minutes to play. The Barracuda pulled their goalie and scored one more with 0.9 seconds left.
The win pushes the Gulls past Bakersfield and into 3rd place in the Pacific Division. They get a day off and play the Reign in Ontario on Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
