Gulls Points Streak Snapped

San Diego suffers home loss to Bakersfield

Sometimes things don’t go your way. Sometimes things go so far away from your way you have to say it was just “one of those nights.”

Saturday night was one of those nights for the Gulls. San Diego fell behind Bakersfield 3-0 and could never close the gap in a 6-2 loss, just their third loss in the last 16 games. The setback snaps their franchise-record 15 game points streak.

A sellout crowd of 12,920 saw a scoreless first period then watched the game get out of hand. Bakersfield scored twice in 12 seconds and added another nine minutes later to take a 3-0 lead. They got three more (including an empty-netter) in the 3rd period to make sure there would be no comeback.

Before the game the Anaheim Ducks recalled center Sam Carrick, who led the Gulls with 20 goals. His departure means over a four day period San Diego lost four of their top five scorers and the offense struggled to find a groove.

This was the last of three January home games for the Gulls. They play Monday in Ontario then do the Texas 2-step with games in San Antonio on Friday and Austin on Saturday.
