Gulls Destroy Barracuda 8-3

San Diego continues dominance over San Jose

The San Jose Barracuda have played 45 games and only lost 12 of them in regulation. Four of those losses have come against the San Diego Gulls.

One of San Jose's two overtime losses also came to San Diego but none of those previous losses were as lopsided as Saturday's matinee by the Bay.

The Gulls tied a franchise record for goals in a game in an 8-3 rout at SAP Center. Sam Carrick scored a pair of power play goals and Corey Tropp scored a goal in his fifth straight game. Chase De Leo, Sam Steel, Trevor Murphy, Ben Street, and Alex Dostie also found the back of the net during the offensive gluttony.

"We scored when presented the opportunity and I think that’s one great thing about our team," said Gulls head coach Dallas Eakins. "We are a dangerous group and you don’t want to give us much."

When you add in all the assists, 15 different Gulls scored in this game. That made things easier for Jeff Glass but the 33-year-old goalie still put in a tremendous performance. Glass made 40 saves, his first 40-save game since 2009 when he was with Binghamton.

These teams will meet again in San Jose on Monday and then play three more times after that in the regular season. As it stands now the Gulls and Barracuda would meet in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. That's a matchup San Jose would like avoid at all costs.
