The Gulls and Condors must really like playing long hockey games. Game 1 of their Calder Cup Playoffs series went to four overtimes and San Diego won. Game 3 went to a single extra period and Bakersfield came out on top. Game 5 went to double OT and once again the Condors came out on top.
Josh Currie scored with seven minutes left in the second extra period to give Bakersfield a 2-1 win and extend the series one more game.
The Condors scored a power play goal in the 1st period but Gulls forward Kevin Roy tied it 1-1 with a goal in the 2nd period. After that both goalies were on full lockdown mode.
Bakersfield’s Stuart Skinner stopped 45 shots while Gulls netminder Jeff Glass made 42 saves before Currie’s blast got by him. Despite the setback, the Gulls still own a 3-2 series lead and need just one more win to advance to the Calder Cup Western Conference Final for the first time in their history.
Game 6 will be Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Pechanga Arena. For tickets visit https://www.sandiegogulls.com/tickets/playoffs.
