For 10th anniversaries it's tradition to give the gift of tin or aluminum to symbolize strength and resilience. So, let's all get the Aztecs football program a whole lot of cans (tin or aluminum).
SDSU beat San Jose State 27-17 in the Bay Area to improve to 6-1 on the year, becoming bowl-eligible for the 10th consecutive season. It's a remarkable run for a program that had only gone to eight bowl games over its previous 62 years.
This win got started awfully fast. Kaegun Williams returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. But, much to head coach Rocky Long's dismay, the Spartans scored on their first drive to tie it 7-7.
But they did not get into the end zone again until there were four minutes and 59 seconds left in the game.
In between the Aztecs controlled the ball, the clock and the game. San Diego State's offense rushed for 260 yards and held the ball for 40:22, a massive advantage in time of possession.
Juwan Washington led the way with 78 yards on 16 carries with a 1-yard touchdown run. Right behind him was Chase Jasmin, who went for 70 yards on just six rushes because one of them was a 50-yard TD run at the end of the 3rd quarter that put the Aztecs on top 27-10.
SDSU heads to UNLV next week then has a bye before finishing with three of their last four games at home. If they win out they will earn a spot in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.
