Former Padre Voted into Hall of Fame

Rickey Henderson, who played for the Padres in two separate stints, is voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Many baseball insiders consider Henderson to be the greatest leadoff hitter in the history of baseball.

Henderson wore a Friars uniform in 1996 and again in 2001. In '96 he had a .410 on-base percentage with the Padres, who that year won their first National League West title in 12 years. In 2001, Henderson notched his 3,000th hit.

During his career, the journeyman Major Leaguer played for eight different teams.

Jim Rice was the only other player elected to the Hall of Fame this year.
