Nearby Fans Watch Aztecs From Afar

Not quite your everyday home game

San Diego State fans swarmed into Viejas Arena on Thursday afternoon, just as they have done time and time again this season.

They wore their usual black and red. They screamed their usual chants. They watched their usual team play in their usual white-colored home uniforms.

From about 300 miles away.

An estimated 2,000 fans gathered by halftime to watch the team face Northern Colorado in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The game was streaming live from the arena's scoreboard, located just below the midcourt rafters.

The buzzing atmosphere erupted when sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard hit a jumper to put second-seeded San Diego State ahead 2-0 on the team's first possession of the game.

The two teams were tied 20-20 before the Aztecs made a 10-0 run to the crowd's approval.

San Diego State led 30-24 at halftime. About 1,300 fans were in attendance at tip-off.
