Canseco Ordered To Appear In Federal Court

A former baseball star was held for hours at the San Ysidro border crossing after agents said they found fertility drugs in his car.

The human chorionic gonadotropin was found Thursday when Jose Cansecoe was attempting to crossed into San Diego, according to authorities. The drug is illegal to possess without a prescription and is sometimes used to help restore production of testosterone lost by the use of steroids. Three years ago, Canseco admitted in his book that he had used steroids.

Canseco was held for 10 hours, according to his attorney. The lawyer declined to say if Canseco had the drugs.
   
Canseco, who played for the A's, Rangersand Red Sox, among other teams, is expected to appear in federal court on Tuesday.
