Chargers Sign Another Wide Receiver

Injuries force the Bolts to make another personnel move

The Chargers have signed wide receiver Tyrell Williams from the practice squad. He'll be on the active roster for Sunday's game against the Chiefs at Qualcomm Stadium.

Williams got the call because Malcom Floyd is out with a shoulder injury. Tyrell showed potential in the pre-season, leading San Diego in receiving yards. He made the club out of training camp and appeared in the season-opening win over the Lions on special teams. Williams has yet to make his first NFL reception.

That's likely the biggest problem with Floyd and Keenan Allen being out; the Chargers are severely lacking in experience on the outside. The four wideouts the Bolts will have available against Kansas City ... Williams, Stevie Johnson, Dontrelle Inman and Javontee Herndon ... have combined for 44 catches this season.

Another way to say that is, the four WR that quarterback Philip Rivers will have available have combined for one fewer catch (44) than running back Danny Woodhead (45) in 2015. Also keep in mind tight end Ladarius Green is questionable with an injury, so Rivers will have to make due with some untested weapons.

If ever there was a week for Head Coach Mike McCoy and Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich to commit wholeheartedly to the running game, it would appear this is that week.
