Charger Antwan Applewhite Arrested for DUI

Chargers player Antwan Applewhite was arrested Friday on suspicion of DUI according to San Diego police.

Applewhite was driving near Grand and Gresham in Pacific Beach around 2:20 a.m. Friday when he was stopped by a San Diego police officer.

The officer conducted a DUI evaluation and ended up transporting Applewhite downtown. He was booked at 4:09 a.m. and posted bail shortly after 10 a.m.

A woman riding with Applewhite was not detained and was transported home by police officers.

Applewhite is scheduled to be arraigned June 17 at 8:30 a.m., police said.

The outside linebacker, who first signed with the Chargers in 2008, also played for San Diego State University.

The Chargers released the following statement Friday afternoon:

"It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Antwan Applewhite. We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."
