Carmelo Anthony became the first U.S. men's basketball player to be selected to four Olympics when he was chosen for the 2016 Olympic team. The New York Knick forward has two gold medals from 2012 and 2008 and one bronze from 2004.
Anthony is one of the most decorated men’s basketball players in Rio. Ranked 23rd for efficiency in the NBA, he averaged 21.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds, shooting 43.4 percent from the field in the 2015-2016 season.
En route to gold in London, Anthony set the USA men’s Olympic single-game scoring record with 37 points versus Nigeria in a lopsided victory. He shot 53.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line in the 2012 games. Anthony holds the record for most 3-pointers made in a U.S. Olympic career at 39.
Anthony grew up in Baltimore and was drafted third in the 2003 NBA Draft after one season at Syracuse, where he led the Orange to its first NCAA title. He is seeking his third Olympic gold and his fourth medal overall in what is expected to be his final appearance at the Games.
