CS San Marcos Soccer Upsets #1 UC San Diego

Cal State San Marcos women's soccer beat UC San Diego 1-0 Wednesday. It was the first loss of the season for the #1 ranked team in NCAA Div. II soccer.

Cal State University San Marcos women's soccer pulled off a huge upset, beating previously undefeated and #1 nationally ranked University of California San Diego (UCSD) 1-0 Tuesday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.

In the 64th minute, Cougars forward Madyson Brown sent a corner kick near the goal, after the ball bounced around, Lauren Perry scored with a laser in the top of the goal.

Perry said, "It feels good, total team effort, everyone deserves that goal, it wasn't mine, it was everyone's."

UCSD entered the match 9-0-1, but were dealt their first loss of the season.

Perry added, "It was our biggest game of our careers, I'm proud of how we played."

The victory over UCSD is CSUSM's first in program history after 8 previous attempts.  It's also CSUSM's first win over a top ranked team in its NCAA Division II history.

CSUSM is 5-4 on the season, 4-1 in CCAA play.  UCSD falls to 9-1-1, 4-1 in CCAA.
