Bush received a club record $3.15 million signing bonus in 2004. Shortly after he signed it, the Mission Bay High School grad was arrested after an incident at a nightclub in Arizona.

The Padres have designated Bush for assignment and now have 10 days to arrange a trade or place him on waivers.

They have already filled his spot on the 40-man roster with veteran slugger Cliff Floyd, a 16-year veteran who spent last season with the American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays. Floyd got a one-year $750,000 deal.
