Big Crowds Expected To Watch Aztecs Face TCU

Stephen Strasburg is the best pitcher in college baseball, and when he works on Friday night at San Diego State; he puts fans in the stands. This Friday will be no different.

Just 250 tickets are left for the showdown of nationally ranked teams, as the Aztecs get set to host TCU in the start of a critical weekend series.

"There's a little more pressure this weekend because we're playing at home," said Aztecs Head Coach Tony Gwynn. "I've tried to sell the kids on the fact to just go out and play.  Don't get caught up in how big the crowd is, or what's at stake."

The Aztecs will start the three game series in fourth place in the Mountain West Conference, and three games behind the Horned Frogs.

"We've got to have the mentality of winning every game," Gwynn added.

With Strasburg on the mound, they've got a terrific chance of winning the first game of the series.  Strasburg, who is undefeated,  is four strikeouts away from setting a  school and conference record for career strikeouts.  He's also 13 strikeouts shy of a single season conference record.

"Our guys feed off him," according to Gwynn.  "He handles pressure so well, and I think the rest of the team sees that."

For the first time since Gwynn has taken over as coach, SDSU has a legitimate chance of making the NCAA Tournament.   How they play this weekend will go a long way toward deciding that.
