Bears Fans Were Ahead Of Curve On Favre Hate

Finally the rest of the world catches up to Bears fans

"You see, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve." Yes, we're quoting "The Dark Knight," even though "Dark Knight" quotes and references were played out about nine months ago. You know why? Because the rest of the world has finally caught up to us Bears fans, and it feels tremendous. Finally, the rest of the world knows what it's like to hate the man called Brett Favre.

Is there anyone not named John Edwards doing more to further impugn his reputation right now? Last year was bad enough: The teary retirement, the surefire farewell, the hesitant, drawn-out comeback, before the whole situation finally exploded and left the Packers with no choice but to trade Favre away once and for all. Of course, this angered Favre. Why can't I have my way?, he no doubt asked himself. I'm Brett Favre! Everyone loves me! Everyone's always loved me!

So Favre's spoiled self was traded to the Jets, where he played OK. He's a good quarterback. We didn't forget that. But his late-season collapse left New York out of the playoffs, and it turns out his appetite for Packer-related revenge hasn't been sated. Favre reportedly wants to come back to the Vikings so he can play the Packers twice a year. Gee, that doesn't seem petty at all. Why don't you make a burn book while you're at it, Brett? (Yes, "Mean Girls" reference. That makes this post two-for-two in the outdated reference category. We can do this all day!)

Finally, people are sick of the act. Even SI columnist and Favre fanboy Peter King, who has cheerled no less than three Brett Favre comebacks by now, must admit that his readers don't want another Favre saga. We've yet to read one football fan actually excited about the prospect of Favre dragging out the offseason with some sort of attention-focused standoff. Football people just want Favre to go away, what he said he would do several times now. Welcome to Bears fandom, everybody! We've hated this man with deep, seething passion for years. We knew his act -- his John Madden-inspired "just having fun out there" nonsense was a big ruse. We knew, deep down, Brett Favre was just like every other athlete. Selfish. Greedy. Vengeful.

And now the whole world knows. Turns out, we were just ahead of the curve.
