BBQ-ing up a Good Cause

Phil's BBQ is using good ole' BBQ and our San Diego Padres to help raise money to support the children of military families.

Phil’s BBQ of San Diego recently hosted a tailgate party in the at PETCO Park to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ "Operation Bigs" program, which offers support to children of military families through one-on-one mentoring, according to QSR magazine. The event, “Phil’s BBQ at the Ballpark,” was held on June 1, and raised $38,973 for the charity. But San Diego’s favorite BBQ isn’t stopping there.

After raising funds for the cause by selling thousands of tickets for $20 each (that included a Phil’s BBQ meal and a ticket to watch the Padres take on the Philadelphia Phillies at PETCO Park), Phil’s is also planning on sponsoring the Padres “Game Ball Delivery.” During the 2009 season, one child at every home game will have the memorable opportunity to go down to the field to deliver the game ball to the pitcher’s mound. Phil’s BBQ has been selecting children from their charity partner, customers, employees and e-mail club members to participate in this great experience.

Phil’s donations and support hardly went unnoticed. CEO and President of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, Paul Palmer, announced his thanks to Phil’s BBQ saying, “Not only did Phil’s provide dinner and the Padres game to 1,000 children, they also raised over $38,000 to help Big Brothers Big Sisters serve even more military kids.”
