Aztecs Women up for the Challenge

A record crowd for a women's basketball game at San Diego State on Saturday was part of the reason the Aztecs beat DePaul in their opening game of the NCAA tournament.   So was an amazing 35 point performance from guard Jene Morris.  It'll take a lot more than that when the Aztecs host second ranked Stanford tonight.

"We're ready for the challenge," said head coach Beth Burns.

The Aztecs have been unbeatable on their home floor this season with wins over national powers like Texas and Utah.   But Stanford could be better than both of those teams.   They're 30-4, and have won 17 straight games.  The Cardinal routed UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night 74-39. They're led by the Pac-10 Conference Player of the year in junior center Jayne Appel.

"They're playing at a very high level," added Burns.  "Their size, and experience will cause some problems."

The last time the Aztecs faced Stanford was 1989.  They lost that night 109-45.  An upset win tonight would give SDSU  25 victories in what has already been an incredible season.
