When San Diego State gets in to Mountain West Conference play we don't so much ask whether or not they're going to win; we ask if they'll cover the point spread.
During their 16-game conference winning streak the Aztecs had outscored their opponents by a combined 403 points. Now that they’ve run it to 17 straight you can add another 30-point difference to the ledger.
SDSU beat Nevada 46-16 in Reno, rushing for a program record 474 yards in the process.
Running back Donnel Pumphrey ran for 198 yards and a touchdown, moving past DeAngelo Williams in to 4th place on the NCAA’s all-time rushing list. The only men in front of Pumphrey now are Tony Dorsett, Ricky Williams and Ron Dayne. But the senior was not even the Aztecs’ leading rusher in this game.
Rashaad Penny was stellar, going for 208 yards on 10 carries. Penny had scoring runs of 40 and 72 yards.
San Diego State’s defense was opportunistic (as usual) with three more interceptions. The Aztecs improve to 9-1 on the season. They have two more regular season games, on the road against Wyoming and at home against Colorado State, before playing in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.
