The 15th ranked Aztecs Maui experience has been a wild one. They won a tight, double-overtime game against BYU on Monday Night. Tuesday, in the tournament semifinals, they cruised to a 74-57 victory over Pittsburgh.
Next up is a familiar foe to Steve Fisher's squad, 3rd ranked Arizona. The Wildcats beat Kansas State in the other semifinal match earlier on Tuesday, 72-68. The Aztecs have a chance at some revenge against Arizona. The Wildcats beat State twice last year, ending the Aztecs season in the Sweet-16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Trey Kell had his best game as an Aztec. The St. Augustine product scored 15 points, shooting a very tidy 7-of-9 from the floor.
With the victory Fisher set the school record for most wins in school history (317) surpassing George Zigenfuss, who coached on the Mesa from 1948-1969.
Tip-off of the championship game is set for 7:00 pm PST.
