Athlete-Friendly Ideas Pitched to SDSU

Ousted SDSU football coach Chuck Long submitted a report recommending that the school relax admission requirements for Athletic Department recruits, reduce academic requirements for transfer students, move players to the top-tier campus housing complex, Cuicacalli, and allow athletes to join frats, reported the Union Tribune.

Long gave the school a 23-page report as part of his new position. After being fired as football coach last November, he was assigned to special projects at the school until his contract ends in December 2010.

Long was assigned to three projects: admissions for student-athletes, housing for football players and attracting people to SDSU through sports camps, according to the Union Tribune.

"Junior college transfers need to pass the golden 4 (freshman writing, upper writing, math, public speaking) to be eligible for San Diego State," Long wrote in his letter. "Not every college requires the golden 4 which makes it tough in the recruiting battles. Reducing the required classes would level the playing field and allow more transfer students to attend SDSU."

Long also suggested hiring or assigning an admissions staff member to exclusively handle student-athletes, according to the Union Tribune.
