Alpine Ride: A Real Challenge

Annual bike ride to raise funds for Rady's Children's Hospital

Hey cyclists, looking for a challenging ride this weekend; one that will wear you out and raise some money for some worthy causes too?  Read on, it's the annual Alpine Challenge and the weather will be perfect for a little bicycling especially out there in the cool, lower elevations of our local mountains.

There are three distances to choose from: 25, 60 or 72 miles.  They get underway at 7:00 AM Saturday morning at the Viejas Resort just east of Alpine and the toughest route takes you up through Pine Valley and Descanso and includes some 7,000' of vertical climb along the way.

Over the past 8 years the event has raised more than $135,000, half for Rady's Children's Hospital and the other half going to the ride's perpetual scholarship fund which, so far, has helped send 9 kids to college.

The group's website offers more information and detailed maps of the various routes.
