49ers O-Line Competition Heats Up

Practice No. 14
Summary: Coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman say that the 49ers plan to play their best five offensive linemen. How will they go about determining which five players to start in the regular season? "Just by practicing," Harbaugh said. "That's what we go by now and in preseason games and let that dictate it, who's playing the best." For the first time, there appeared to be legitimate competition at more than just the center position on the line. Adam Snyder began seeing more work at right guard, competing with Chilo Rachal. Snyder is still working with the first team at center, but free-agent pickup Jonathan Goodwin appears to be the front-runner to win that job. And tackle Alex Boone worked on both sides of the line, even cutting into some of Anthony Davis' practice snaps at right tackle.
