NCAA Game Summary – San Diego at Gonzaga

Spokane, WA (Sports Network) - Austin Daye led all scorers with 17 points, as the No. 20 Gonzaga Bulldogs rolled to a 64-47 victory over the San Diego Toreros in a West Coast Conference tilt.

Daye also pulled down eight rebounds in a dominating effort in the frontcourt for Gonzaga (16-4, 7-0 WCC), which owned a 44-25 rebounding edge en route to its eighth straight victory.

Josh Heytvelt and Micah Downs each had nine boards to go with 13 and nine points, respectively, as the Bulldogs moved to 8-1 at home this season.

Danny Brown was the only double-digit scorer for the Toreros with 11 points. San Diego's leading scorer, Gyno Pomare (14.5 ppg), scored six of the game's first eight points but was held scoreless the rest of the way, while the team as a whole shot just 33.3 percent from the field in its third consecutive loss.

Both teams came out of the gate flat, as Gonzaga went scoreless for the first five-plus minutes and San Diego hit just 2-of-13 from the floor to open the game.

Whereas the Bulldogs recovered from their slow start, the Toreros continued to struggle offensively, going without a point for roughly seven minutes at one point. Brown's three-pointer ended the drought with 7 1/2 minutes left, but by that time the hosts had rattled off 14 straight, capped by a Downs trey for a 16-6 lead.

The 'Zags led 27-18 at halftime and kept a multiple-possession advantage throughout the second half. Heytvelt made a three-pointer midway through to put the exclamation point on a 10-3 run.

The trey resulted in a 47-28 differential, and San Diego had one final flurry to make a game of things. Three straight makes from behind the arc cut the deficit to 12 with a little over 8 1/2 minutes on the clock.

The Toreros, though, made just four field goals the rest of the way, and the Bulldogs coasted to the victory.
