A state ethics panel has fined a local Republican lawmaker, a former Democratic candidate for governor and others for various campaign finance violations.
The commission announced $20,000 in fines against Republican state Assemblyman Joel Anderson of San Diego for accepting contributions in excess of campaign limits. Anderson agreed to pay the fine for soliciting more than $45,000 from five people, which was funneled through the Fresno County Republican Central Committee.
The GOP committee was also fined $29,000.
The California Fair Political Practices Commission will vote next Thursday to approve more than $100,000 in fines against former state Controller Steve Westly for failing to report expenses and payments to contractors.
Westly lost the Democratic primary for governor in 2006.
