Still Counting…

Every vote cast will be counted, registrar says

Don't think your vote doesn't count.  An army of volunteers burned the midnight oil to make sure all ballots were counted at the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

The last voter left around 9:30 p.m. from Kearny Mesa.  Soon after, the boxes of ballots from around the county began arriving.

Once inside, each ballot has to be put through a scanning machine.  About 180 volunteers are working throughout the night to count them.

It takes about 18 to 20 minutes per precinct.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, there were still 12,000 precinct ballots that need to be scanned. More than 200,000 ballots still need to be counted including mail in and provisional.

Quick look at counting process:

200,000 ballots still need to be counted (12,000 precinct; 107,000 mail in ballots and 80,000 provisional ballots)
