It's been an ongoing drama in Poway for months. The Poway City Council asked one of its members to resign, but she refused. After several months of public discussion and tension, a local resident has begun a recall effort.
Four members of the Poway City Council asked Councilwoman Betty Rexford to resign in August 2009 after a settlement in a lawsuit that claimed she used her influence to interfere with construction on her neighbor's property.
Rexford, who is up for re-election in 2010, has repeatedly denied the request to step down. She defended herself against all allegations in a letter to the News Chieftain newspaper.
Longtime Poway resident, Steve Vaus, told a Poway community newspaper that the recall office will be open this weekend and staffed with volunteers. The group needs 5,657 signatures to qualify the measure on the June 8 primary ballot.
In order to qualify for the ballot, the signatures needed must be collected before Jan. 28.
