New Faces Coming to School Board

The wave of change that swept the nation swelled across the San Diego Unified School Board as well on Election Day.

The five member San Diego school board will have two new faces.  Richard Barrera ran unopposed for the seat in District D. John Lee Evans  narrowly defeated incumbent Mitz Lee for the seat in District A.

Evans said his "first priority is really to have openness in the school board to do away with the secret meetings."

He said he would like to have school board meeting later in the afternoon, for example, so more people could attend.

Incumbent Shelia Jackson will return to her seat representing District E.  Jackson told KPBS.org that Evans' victory is part of larger shift in the balance of power on the school board.
