Iran's Ahmadinejad Sworn in For Second Term

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was sworn in Wednesday for his second term as the country's leader after a contentious election landed him back in the seat of power.

Ahmadinejad said that he would lead the country to "great deeds," the Los Angeles Times reported -- and that Iran had a positive future despite the controversial voting process.

Security has been beefed up for Ahmadinejad, according to the Times, which reported that the leader's swearing-in ceremony was visited by hundreds and possibly thousands of protestors violently fighting against his return.

The White House said it would recognize Ahmadinejad as the elected leader and respect the Iranian voting results.
