Fact Check: Trump Repeats False Claim US Has Highest Taxes

America's tax revenue is 26 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, significantly lower than the average other developed countries pay

President Donald Trump on Thursday repeated his claim that the United States has the highest taxes in the world, but experts say that is still not true, NBC News reported.

"We pay more tax than anybody in the world, we're going to reduce taxes," Trump said from his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf resort, again calling out Congress for not working with him fast enough to cut taxes.

In fact, America's tax revenue is 26 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, which is significantly lower than the average 34 percent other developed countries pay relative to their GDP.

"Two years later, and I’m still answering this one," John Pomerleau, the Tax Foundation's director of federal budgets, told NBC News. "The answer is still the same: No, the United States is not the highest-taxed nation in the world."
