Emerald Squeaks Out City Council Victory

Former television reporter Marti Emerald has won a hotly contested race for San Diego City council.

Emerald faced April Boling in the runoff race for the District 7 seat. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Emerald nosed out Boling by 704 votes, carrying the race with 51 percent of the vote.

"We've been told this is going to be a very close race," Emerald said on Tuesday night. "I am confident in the voters of the Seventh District."

Emerald, who was a consumer reporter on KGTV, will replace the termed out Jim Madaffer.
